I don't understand why the USPS is forcing mailers to conform to the new shaped base pricing stucture why installing new automated equipment to process flat size mailers. Seems to me that there is a double standard here.
These new shape based rules are playing havoc with catalogers and Non-Profit groups sending out their newsletters that were/are flat size. I feel the USPS is shooting themselves in the foot.

Did you really expect the USPS to do anything that makes sense? While marketers are finding all new mediums, i.e. bulk e-mail, YouTube, etc. etc. the post office sets up roadblock after roadblock to do business with them. They should start a new department called Mail Prevention.

The USPS already has a department in charge of Mail Prevention - it's called Mailing Standards and they have branches at almost all SCFs and BMUs. Their job is to flip through the regs (in between coffee breaks, sick days and afternoons spent picking lint from their collctive navels) to find some reason why the job you are presenting for Bulk Mail Acceptance does not have to be accepted. They're quite good at it. If they had fewer coffee breaks and sick days and less lint in their belly buttons, no mail at all would be accepted. Think of the savings for the Postal Service!
