We installed the Oct 2009 version of Mailers+4 and the updates. We execute Mailers+4 from MS Access but now receive an error message.

What causes this error message when opening Mailers+4?
"MP4AUTO.INI Could not be opened"

We installed the server software in K:\Mailers
We installed the client software in C:\Mailers
We are executing C:\Mailers\Mp4.exeEh?

I'm not sure what you mean by executing Mailers+4 from MS Access? Can you elaborate? Are you able to open Mailers by executing the mp4.exe from the Mailers+4 directory?

12/17/2009: I have corrected the code that was not in the proper sequence.
Here is my code in VBA:

ProcessId = Shell(strProg, 0)
'where strprog=C:\Mailers\MP4.EXE K:\Data\MlbxNew\Mailings\00972F00.dbf

ProcessHandle = OpenProcess(Access, False, ProcessId)
Do 'really weird looking loop construct but don't try to "fix" it!
ProcessHandle = OpenProcess(Access, False, ProcessId)
If ProcessHandle <> 0 Then
CloseRes = CloseHandle(ProcessHandle)
End If
DoEvents
Loop Until ProcessHandle = 0

This looks weird but has been working for years. It could be something we have done during the install but I don't know where to begin to look. The book says to install the server first. From our "client" we install the "server" software to network drive "K:\Mailers" that is on a 2008 Windows Server. We then install the "client/small" software to "C:\Mailers". Is that correct?

Thanks,
Don K

P.S.
We uninstalled MP4 from all our computers: client and server
We installed MP4 on the server and one client.
Yes, the client fails with the same message when opening using the desktop icon.

I have edited my 12/14/2009 post. I corrected the code that was not in the proper sequence and added additional information about our install of MP4. The MP4 open fails with the same message when using the desktop icon.

Hi Don,

You are opening Mailers+4 in a way we haven't seen before and don't test or officially support this. We have tried to replicate this using access and were unsuccessful but it seems we were going in the wrong direction of finding a solution or workaround for this. We recieved a call from a user installing our server edition of Mp4 and recieved the same exact error. It turns out we installed the mp4auto.ini file to the Mailers+4 root directory instead of the data files directory. We copied the .ini file in the data files directory (or whatever directory the national/DPV files are located) and the problem was fixed. Now what is strange is the .ini did not install to the root for all users so we are still looking into this. Let's try copying this file to the directory where national/dpv data files are located and try to open the application again.

If the .ini file installing to the wrong directory is the problem you should also receive this error if you were to double click on the mp4.exe from the Mailers+4 directory bypassing access.

Paul
