How to Sort for CRRT Discount Options · View

Hi:

I posted a question on your support web page and I can't seem to find the response - sorry...

I am using Mailers+4 and recently added the eLot option.

eLot appears to give me a substantial savings on flats with Enhanced CRRT rates but I am confused about the sequence of the labels.

When I run labels or sort by the Sequence Number provided by Mailers+4 the records are grouped by CRRT but there doesn't seem to be any correlation to or order by LOT Number or LOT Order.

The post response essentially said a sequence is not required once the packages are separated by CRRT.

That's great if true but I want to confirm before I take mail down there and get whacked...

Can you confirm what the print sequence is within CRRT, if any? Am I safe in sorting by the sequence number provided by Mailers+4 and just batching by CRRT?

I've asked the Mailpiece Design Analyst for my area what his ruling is and if/when I get a response I'll add it to this post.

Thanks so much.

Don.

Hi Don, here is a blurp from the USPS Domestic Mail Manual on ELOT for flats.

345.6.9.6

"6.9.6 Updating Line-of-Travel Sequence Information
Unless the mail is prepared in carrier walk sequence, line-of-travel (LOT) sequence is required for mailings at Standard Mail Enhanced Carrier Route basic prices. LOT sequence is not an exact walk sequence but a sequence of ZIP+4 codes arranged in the order that the route is served by a carrier. (First the ZIP+4 groups are sequenced, then the addresses within each are identified as being in ascending or descending order.) The USPS eLOT product provides a list of the ZIP+4 codes each carrier route serves, identifies the order in which they are delivered, and provides an indicator specifying whether the addresses that share the same ZIP+4 code must be sorted in ascending or descending order. When a range of ZIP+4 codes on the same carrier route are assigned the same sequence number, the addresses bearing those ZIP+4 codes must be arranged in ascending ZIP+4 code order before the sequence number is assigned. LOT information must be updated within 90 days before the date of mailing."

So you can sort the sequence number but only by the last 4 digits of this number. The sequence number consists of 14 characters..

First 2 characters = Job Number
Next 4 characters = Container Number
Next 4 characters = Package Number
Last 4 characters = Sequence Number

After presorting in Mailers+4 it may be easier to export the results in presorted order if your using a .txt or .dbf file.

Thank you for your kind response Paul.

Yes, I export my file back to MS Access after presorting in Mailers+4 so I can sort on pretty much anything.

Pasted below are 20 records from a run I did with eLot.

When looking at the last 4 characters of the Sequence Number they are in order. This is the order the labels would be in if I printed from Mailers+4.

But when looking at the corresponding LOT Number, there doesn't seem to be any correlation - they jump all over.

Should I override the Mailers+4 Sequence Number and sort by something else such as LOT Number?

Thank you again.

Hi Don,

The lot numbers should not be this way. I have a quick question. Within Mailers+4 if you go to "Format Fields" and click the "Presort" tab...can you check to see if you have "Walk Sequence" formatted? If you do uncheck this button and rerun the presort. Let me know if the Lot numbers are in order.

Thank you Paul:

It looks like that did it.

I did in fact have the WALK SEQUENCE block checked in FORMAT and I unchecked and reran.

Below are the first 20 records from the same job again and now there is a LOT Number correlation to Sequence Number.

I see the ENDORSEMENT now includes the LOT Number in addition to the CRRT which it had not before.

It appears this has solved my problem - do you agree?

I think now I can print from MS Access sorting by Sequence Number - thank you so much.
